Curriculum in the Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate Program UNP (hereinafter abbreviated as PSTM-UNP) This approach was developed with Outcome Based Education (OBE), as stipulated in the Padang State University curriculum development guide.

PSTM-UNP offers two options to students; a. Regular curriculum and b. Independent Learning curriculum. Regular Curriculum contains a series of matrices of courses aimed at producing graduates who have a depth of linear knowledge in the field of Mechanical Engineering. While the curriculum Freedom to Learn is a program offered to give students more flexibility in honing their academic competencies according to their respective interests. Nevertheless, in the independent study program, the scientific spirit of Mechanical Engineering remains the most significant part.

In Independent Learning curriculum on PSTM-UNP, students are given greater flexibility in honing academic competencies according to their respective interests. Students are entitled to receive teaching as long as 3 semester (equal to 60 SKS) outside PSTM-UNP.

Activities outside PSTM-UNP can be done by:; (1) take a series of courses outside the study program inside UNP or outside the study program outside UNP and/or (2) participate in other off-campus activities that support competency improvement such as Internships / Industrial Practice / Participate in programmed community activities etc.
